MARCH 2025
SURFANS F28: I needed a Hi Res Audio Player (that I discovered had to be non-Android) and would work via USB in my 15yr old Hi Res Pioneer DEX P99RS headunit. After trying the Sony NM A306, Hiby R1 and the R4, this unit fitted the bill perfectly. Interface is nice and easy, full touch screen, easy Bluetooth hook-up and the sound is great.I am not worried about battery life but on paper it looks good. I have tried it wired through a decent set of B&O headset - nice and clean.Wired in the car sounds awesome. Bluetooth in the car is equally as good. I have a set of decent wireless SONY Headphones - awesome.Need to find a case for it but for me, while the other three all went back, this is my keeper, love it and it looks good and has a decent solid weight to it that fits in your hands or pocket just right.

Very solid and well made. Good sound.
Very well constructed should last.. sound ok but I think it needs a compatible pair of headphones.I'm not sure that IEMs cut it to be honest.I did find it easy to navigate though sometimes swiping is a hit and miss affair.Found touchscreen quite touch friendly.. except for swiping to find the setup menus.Going back to headphones I've gone back to using my Sony buds mainly because you do have some control over track play and selection with out pulling the device out of your pants pocket every so often and you can stop playing immediately if someone needs to speak to you.I do feel that the manual could give more information about getting the best out of this device I feel I could be missing some important settings that might improve sound quality there are some settings I don't comprehend and how do you use the balanced headphones jack? It doesn't go into that at all and the 3.5 headphone jack doesn't fit so presumably you need a special fitting. ... But the manual doesn't mention this at all!Not a bad device but needs the right headphones to get the best out of it .I don't know why some people are having trouble setting this device up the language. For example, the first thing it does when you switch on is ask you what language you want to use. That was my experience anyway. I found it very useful that you can also change the balance with your headphones. This is useful for those of us who have dodgy hearing.Additional:Be very careful with this device although it's a wonder it's very easily scratched. I've already got quite a lot of scratches all over it and I never put it in my pocket with anything else, especially not my keys. Now it's badly scratched.A little hint: for those of you who like me have given up on IEM headphones.I have and now I've gone back to my Sony earbuds. Some of you might be aware that modern earbuds can connect to two different devices same time. So in order to not miss phone calls you can have connections with both your phone and your surfans same time!Of course with ear buds you can select tracks and just stop playing if need be I have also noticed that you can still control your ANC. I think this is a huge increase in functionality and value for money myself. Worth a go.Update tip. We're all wondering what the Hiby link in the Bluetooth menu is aren't we? This is so you can connect to the Hiby app downloaderble from Google play to your phone . On your Surfans click the Hiby link and download Hiby app and top far right menu a scanner will pop up and then you scan the link on your f28 and now your mobile has a link to everything on your mp player. Basically you can operate your player from your phone including the volume and access all folders... Headphones only not Bluetooth buds.. So now you can put your surfans in a pocket or backpack and operate it from your phone!
