Great fan
This is the second fan I've ordered of this model. It's more durable, easier to clean, quieter, and circulates air much better than smaller 560 model.Unlike the larger models, its footprint is small enough to fit near a door where I need to move air from an air conditioned room to rooms with no AC without blocking the passage.Like larger models, its fan speed is continuously adjustable. It doesn't have a remote, but I rarely need to adjust the fan speed, and I'e put it on an extension cord with a foot pedal for turning it on and offMy only complaint is that, unlike larger models, the angle isn't adjustable. Its only angles are straight forward (floor level) and up (about 45° angle, blowing the chandelier around).

This is hot! No, cool! No, hot! (with 2016 update)
August 3, 2016:Nine years later, after running 24 hours a day in the summer and about half that in the winter, and having been dropped twice from a height of four feet onto a tile floor a few years ago, my trusty 733 is still (literally) humming along. The clips that hold the grill cracked off the second time it was dropped, but $25 (shipping included) for a new replacement grill has restored it to like-new condition.I just love the fan's sound. At any speed, the Vornado 733 sounds smoother than other brands, more whirring than windy. On low I can't really hear it at all, on medium it's easy to hear TV and noises from other rooms even when the fan is only a few feet away, and on high the sound is pretty loud, but low pitched enough that it's not annoying.Fan size matters, whether it's made by Vornado or not. A small fan on high is louder than a larger fan on low blowing the same amount of air, but the small fan won't keep the air in as small a stream or move it as fast. or as far. You'll simply be happier with a fan that's large enough to do the job quickly and quietly on low or medium speed. To get the most out of a Vornado fan, you need to understand how it works and experiment with placement and direction. As advertised, the fan can circulate the air to equalize the temperature in a single room, usually by putting it in one corner and pointing it at the ceiling in the corner diagonal from it, or, in a smaller room, by simply pointing the airflow straight up at the ceiling or at an opposite wall. You can also use it to throw air from one area of your home to another, whether it's to blow air upstairs, downstairs, or straight into a problem room. For example, my 733 spends the first hour of the day sending air 40 feet from the living room window A/C to the far end of my stuffy kitchen; the rest of the day it circulates living room air by bouncing it against the ceiling above the kitchen door, while a smaller Vornado keeps the cool air moving into the kitchen.Original review July 4, 2007:I've had the old classic 210 with variable speed for five or six years to circulate window air conditioning in my big L-shaped living room. I'm buying this one to blow cool air from one bedroom to another at night so I don't have to carry the other one around when I go to bed. This one is virtually identical to the 210, except it's 3 speed and only has 3 positions. But I have finally figured out that I don't need to pay infinitely variable speed or infinite positioning. The west side of my living room can reach 110 degrees or more in the afternoons. The only window I can put an A/C in faces the other side of the room. So I put the Vornado on the floor near the A/C and aim it so that the compact air stream hits the stream of air from the A/C and blows it to the hot end of the room. I'm astonished at how well this works. The rest of the year, when I'm not using the A/C, I use it like a ceiling fan by aiming it straight up. This baby really can throw air all over the place in a compact stream. They're right when they call it an air circulator. On low pointing it directly at yourself is OK, but because of the narrow air stream it works best pointed at the ceiling or a nearby wall to cool you indirectly. It's very, very quiet at low settings. At medium it sounds like any fan; at high it is about as loud as any average fan at its high setting. But you only need it on high when you're really trying to move a lot of air quickly.Vornado fans are worth every penny. Not many products actually live up to their hype, but this one does. I can't wait to get the new one.

Great Not-So-Little Fan with High Airflow
Let me start off by saying that this is a good, no, great fan. It pushes a lot of air through a large space, and it does so quickly. One of the biggest issues I had was that this fan is huge. The product pictures don't really do justice to the size of this fan. I know that it's technically my fault for not looking at all the dimensions and breaking out the tape measure, but it still just surprised me at how big it is. This fan should do well as a floor fan or on an out-of-the-way table or shelf. However, I can tell you that if you're expecting this to be a desk or office work-space fan, you should check out the smaller models. The fan takes a lot of real estate on a desk and is capable of blowing papers and other unsecured light materials around.Secondly, the fan is very quiet when in 1st speed. However, the fan gets significantly louder on its' 2nd and 3rd speeds. Normally I don't mind some fan noise as ambient sound, but when this thing is on 3rd speed, you can expect it to be louder than a box fan. Other reviews list decibel levels for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd speeds, but if you're like me, those numbers are pretty useless. If you need your fan to be whisper quiet, this is not the right fan for you.Lastly, product performance. Like I said in the beginning, this fan pushes a whole lot of air through a wide space. I'm using it in a smaller bedroom, and it is capable of flowing air across all 4 walls (on 3rd speed).Other things I want to mention include that the fan can be tilted on 3 different angles. The first setting is sitting flat and blowing air horizontally. The second setting is a 45-degree angle that blows diagonally. The third setting is a 90-degree angle which blows air vertically. No matter the case, the fan is not on an adjustable mechanism. If you want to change fan angles, you'll need to physically lift the fan up and tilt it.The power cord is also not super long, so expect needing an extension cord if you're not near an outlet.Overall, this was a good buy, but I don't think I'd call it a fantastic value for the price. The fan is worth what I paid for it, but there are definitely better price-for-punch fans out there.
