Perfect for my family!
This is exactly how my husband and I travel. We pick a part of town, then seek that area's landmarks, fun restaurants, scenic lookouts, and cafés. This book does just that - but also provides a map AND gives advice for which train station exit to start from. This is an excellent combination that suits variable cell signal, and energy levels. My favorite pages are the appendix (after the 42 walks, and before the index).I know that when I move to Tokyo I'll have some visiting family members who might only be available for one or two walks. Using the appendix, they can look at the walks that fit their interests and pick their walks. This ensures that they can maximize their time, and I know which stations we'll need and can manage the transportation.Tokyo has so much to offer, and I love that this book curates so many local flavors and gives me several quick options. Of course I will expand and explore beyond the print recommendations, but I love having a solid springboard to gain familiarity before making the silly gaijin mistakes that I am sure to make.TL;DRThis is an excellent purchase if you love traveling, walking, and riding Japan's excellent railways!

Perfect
Out of my stack of travel guides, this was the one most used. I like to wander when I visit a new city. Dividing the city into districts helped me organize my days out and about for my 2weeks in Tokyo. Many of the places noted were places already on my list to visit so having a small snapshot of a suggested route was great for planning my own path for each day’s adventures.

Amazing Book
I found out about this book though the Japan Travel Planning Facebook group. Ive used the usual travel books such as Fodors and Lonely Planet. While those are good, there is a lot of information in those that all travelers will never get to see. There's also a lot of information that you don't needed such as the lists of hotels and restaurants.Tokyo is a big city and those that have been know that one of the best ways to see it is to focus on a few neighborhoods. IThis book provides you with self guided walking tours of different neighborhoods in Tokyo. This book allows you to do just that. I purchased it prior to a trip this past February and did the walk around Tokyo Station and Imperial Palace. Ive been to Tokyo many times before and never went around the areas outside of Tokyo Station (which is an area most travelers to Japan will go through to catch the bullet trains). There was so much that I saw within a few hours such as the rooftop gardens of many buildings around which were free, museums, and the Imperial Palace. The appendix has suggested walks depending on your interests also.I plan to use it on future trips to Japan and would highly recommend it. Its also lightweight so its easy to carry around.

Great way to get to know Tokyo
If your idea of tourism is to walk the streets and hike the trails of the places you visit, this is the Tokyo guide book for you. I identified the 7 major sites/sights that I wanted to see and then found them in the book and did the walks in which they were included so that I got to see so much more. Includes tips on places for lunch or coffee during the walk. There are small maps for each walk which are useful in giving you a general idea of the layout, but I found that pairing the book with Google Maps on my phone was the easiest and more foolproof way to go.All the walks begin at a train station on the Yamanote line, and you quickly learn how to get around town using that train line. I suggest that you get the SUICA card -- a debit card for Tokyo public transit -- the first time you head out, as it will get you the cheapest fares. It's easy to top up as well.

Seems very handy
I lived in Tokyo from 1980-1984. Tokyo has, of course, changed greatly since. What hasn't changed is this author's suggested walk walk 34, the first suggestion "Around Tokyo", which includes info on the foreigners' cemetery in Yokohama. Fascinating place. I went there twice when I was there - and, I can tell you, the gravestones tell stories. This book gives me great, concise info on how to get there. I also see that walk 30 includes info on both the new and the old fish market. I intend to give it a test in December.

It describes a lot of locations.
But when you get there, you really don't need it. Made me more courageous to take walks, but then again the way the locations are organized it's kind of boring. Really thought this was a walking route book, but it wasn't.

Like having your own tour guide in your pocket
My husband and I recently spent five days in Tokyo, and this book was invaluable. All the "standard" guides cover the major places to see, but this one fills in the local color and neighborhoods. As an example, after seeing the Meiji Shrine (on everyone's list), we followed the author's suggestions to several nearby shopping streets he identifies as "young quirky Japan." So interesting! As a paperback with two facing pages per walk, we carried this book with us wherever we went. Really added so much to our trip!

Pictures are in black and white
It's a great slim pocket guide book, with lots of good ideas and maps, but just be aware that the pictures arn't a selling point, those 108 photos are all in black and white, and about the size of my pinky finger.

Very informative little book for traveling to tokyo
It is a very informative small little book. The best part is it shows you how to go from one point to one point on the map by foot which other map did not show. Very helpful for bugget traveler to visit Tokyo by using metro subway which save a lot of money by following tour.

Must have for exploring Tokyo🇯🇵
Great to use - this was my 7th trip to Japan & for the first time spent an entire week in Tokyo.I discovered plenty of places that I hadn’t heard about before. I could manage 2 of his walks per day.He also neatly summarises the walks into more than 30 categories such as photography fans, history buffs, museum visitors, garden fans, view seekers, gourmets, religious sites etc.I ended up also purchasing the kindle version for the colour photographs & maps etc. the author had stated he kept the printed version to B&W to keep costs down.I have about a dozen other Japan &/or Tokyo books & this is my favourite!
