Useful but very weak.
Convinient to use at home. It does smell when you cook but much less than when cooking on a gas range. The stem part ( long silver part that holds the heating source) is way too weak. Mine was already broken in fact. Inside is a pipe like thing made with ceramic and outer part seems like alluminum and the inside part was broken. The bag is very weak and tears after a few uses. I didn't send it back only because it is pain in the neck to ship it out. Other than that it is a needful item for people who live in apartments.

Awesome gadget!
I love electric grills... even better, i love electric grills that dont smoke. I HIGHLY disagree with the other rating. My family is Japanese as well... living in Japan.. i dont think that has anything to do with it. Just like with ANY cooking, if you add cooler temperature food, it's going to lower the temperature (i.e.: if you load up a hot pan on the stove FULL of food, it'll cool off the pan)However, this grill is not meant to sear, its not meant to be high heat like yakiniku style (which involves actual flames)... the way this cooks takes a little longer, yet... but boy does it lock in all the juices! Juiciest chicken ive ever had in my life!It cleans up super easily as well. The ONLY downfall i see to this is that it's bulky... if you dont have a lot of space in your kitchen for additional appliances, its kind of annoying... but as far as the functionality, this thing is great! We sometimes put it directly on the dinner table for cooking so we can just take food directly from it, and its good in the winter months to keep us warm too!

Does not cook evenly...
The good:Fast shippingThe bad and ugly:This thing did not cook evenly at all. After letting it warm up for a bit we threw on some thinly sliced meat (My family is Japanese and we use table top grills for yakiniku a lot) and it started out great. After throwing on some vegetables as well it kind of slowed down a bit. We had it at its closest height setting and it still did not want to sear the meat very well. The vegetables pretty much wilted and lost all of their moisture. There is also a bare section where there is not any heat element. Very expensive table decoration...I would not recommend this to anyone.
