Replacement for Your existing 2 prongs intercoms That were Formally marketed as FM Wireless Intercom by Radio Shack, GE, Novi 1990’s to 2016

This thinkg works OK, but I thought it was an FM type receiver, or some gadget that worked with radio waves, but you have to hunt around for the best plug-in to get it to work really clearly. I had an addition/extra room added on my house, and the circuitry all works, but the new outlets don't work nearly as well as the originaly wired system.

Although this item isn't perfect, in its description it makes no pretense that a buzz or static noise might be heard contingent upon any appliances et al operating in the household. For this reason, and the fact that the item otherwise operates as advertised, there was no reason to award less than 5-stars. Go in with your eyes open and there will be less surprises or disappointments.Should you decide to purchase this item and also hear a buzz or static, it would be beneficial to at least test the other two available channels. In my home, channel 'B' provided the best reception with the least amount of extraneous noise. The volume of the static varies with the volume control setting. If you can hear what you need to hear with the volume set lower, then the extraneous noise will also be lower. I am using these units for monitoring my elderly parents while they're sleeping and it has been functioning satisfactorily in that regard at what I consider a reasonable price for three units.08/04/11 - Additional informationI'm going to make a short story a little long for background purposes: Last night upon turning on the units, I was hearing a buzz sound from the monitoring units so loud that it prevented hearing that which I needed to monitor. I thought that the unit used to transmit/call had malfunctioned.Today, I connected the "offending" unit along with one of the monitoring units to the same outlet. There was absolutely no interference whatsoever - the units worked perfectly. The instructions state, and a prior reviewer mockingly reiterated, that if the units function while plugged into the same outlet, then any issue cannot be the fault of the units. The suggestion for that hookup is meant only to test the units, and is obviously not meant for practical use.Anyway, I remembered that a seldom-used treadmill was utilized the day previously and its master power switch had been left on. I reconnected the units at their original locations, turned off the treadmill fully, and voila! Things were as they had been.My takeaway from this particular experience is that the introduction of any electrical device (even one that is not in operation), may impact how the intercoms function.

If there was a "star" rating less than 1, I would have marked it. We have purchased many items through Amazon over the years and have been happy with everything until this intercom item. It just doesn't work as described. The only way it works is if we plug the units into the same power strip. The minute you get any distance away - like downstairs, in the garage or on the other side of the house - the signal fades in and out or doesn't work at all. We tried everything and all of the channels to no avail! It is not as if we don't know anything about electronics because we do. The manufacturer says that if you can get the units to work when plugged into the same place that there is no fault with the product. If the only place the units work is when you are standing right next to the person you are talking to, what would be the sense of using the intercom??????The only way you might have success with these intercoms is if you are in the room next door to where you are calling and the plugs are on the same circuit. It is junk. Don't waste your money.

The product works pretty well considering that it is not an expensive item. I am from the island of Puerto Rico and houses here are built with lots of surprises. Believe me. I had to try it in different outlets until I connected with one that had a good reception. The intercom does carries some static in occasions but for the most part the clarity in the person's voice is clear. I peronally would recommend it as a solution to a problem.

ordered 3 of these and just installed them over the past weekend, worked very good. One of the units won't work in hands free, but not a big deal

The system worked briefly and then after about a week cracking and incidences of failed intercom tries began to occur. We needed it for someone who sustained an injury and could not care for themself so this was a problem. We tried troubleshooting and the system would not respond.
