Escape from the Prison of the Tower of the Wizard: An Option Paralysis Adventure (Option Paralysis Adventures) Paperback – January 31, 2024

I should start by saying I'm a fan of the games the author has created. Top most of these are Kingdom of Loathing, West of Loathing, and Shadows Over Loathing.This book feels like an extension of that universe. Not in the names of places or anything, but the overall tone and humor packed into the book.The book knows it is a fantasy adventure and gives you plenty of descriptions to support that, but it doesn't treat the reader like they are a ye old bumpkin. Rather, it acknowledges you are a literate person with a questionable sense of reading material. Many of the jokes are modern by design and some are extremely dated...also by design.The end result is a whimsical fantasy deathtrap with a fresh sense of glea as it plots your demise at every turn. And it's modern approach to jokes will not leave you scratching your head trying to figure out what you missed.Another charming factor is the author offers plenty of fun ways to remember you've done something in the book. The attempts to be "helpful" are in an of themselves hilarious. Of course, the more serious minded of you may want a pen and paper nearby. Though, if you are the more serious type, I expected you to read in order to challenge your mind and not resort to such low brow tools as writing implements.Either way, this is a great choice if you are trying to ween yourself off of epic video games but can't quit that sweet taste of adventure, which the less informed often mistake as peppermint!

If you've ever encountered any of the Loathing games (Kingdom of, West of, Shadows Over) then you're familiar with the writing of the games' primary creative force. And you know he's very funny. This is his book! it is also very funny. I really can't say much more without spoiling the sheer stupid joy on every page: Check it out.

Adults and kids with terrible senses of humor formed by being around too many 1990s kids will adore the book. Hilarious, unexpected twists and turns with tons of creative and differentiated endings. You'll never guess where this CYOA book will take you next!

Please buy a copy so the author's encouraged to write more, so we can all have more nice things to read.

I play Kingdom of Loathing, and have on and off since 2004 or so. When I saw one of the team behind it wrote a book, I ran to buy it for my nephew-in-law. He loves it. I haven't read/explored it myself, but if you have an inquisitive tween that you want to introduce 'choose your own adventure' books to, this is the one to pick!

If you like Kingdom of Loathing, you will love this choose your own adventure book. Jick, Zack Johnson has put a lot of time and effort into entertaining people with video games and now this choose your own adventure book.The book is thick and you will not feel like it wasn't a good value. I would suggest this for any adventurer who wants options in their story.

This book is well written! I haven't gotten through it all, but I definitely see the same style of writing that are in the West of Loathing/Kingdom of Loathing games. Good humor!
