COBI Historical Collection Gato Class Submarine USS Wahoo/SS-238 Submarine,multicolor ,17.72 x 3.55 x 12.01 inches

I've seen the Lego competitors and knock-offs floating around, and I had my suspicions, but after putting together this set, I am a believer. I'm an avid fan of the WW2 pacific theater, and this set opened my eyes to the other larger Battleship sets COBI offers.Pros:- the custom pieces are exquisite, from propellors, to the railing, to the flag. The way the curves and realism of the submarine are reflected are pretty impressive, and that's after working on some of the biggest/best Lego sets. Cobi has some interesting solutions to longtime Lego problems, and they work!- the price! A Lego set around 700 pieces would be $90-$100. You're paying half that for a very realistic model!- the instructions gray out previously-done blocks, a bit of a helpful nod.Cons:- the instructions gave me minor issues - had to go back and correct things, sometimes 5 steps back. It wasn't always easy to distinguish light gray from dark gray. Also, at the end, they leave you with a few illustrations of where the stickers end up, but no clear instructions, causing you to do some guesswork.- Tiny stickler thing, but the nice propellors end up not being able to spin, being too close to the sub itself- Another tiny stickler thing, but the scale doesn't match the other Cobi sets. This wahoo is almost 25 inches long for a 311 ft ship. The Yamato will be ~30 inches long for a 862 ft behemoth. So seeing a sub that should be close to 1/3rd the length of the Yamato, instead being almost the same length, is a bit disappointing. Just a bit! But understandable, for both to have realism.Anyway that is too many characters of cons - really this set is a marvel, and has opened my eyes to Cobi's sets. Give it a try!

Cobi is an amazing company and makes very cool block builds. I have all 3 cobi submarines and this one unfortunately is my least favorite. The Uboat being my #1. This model goes together well and is sturdy when built. It just feels not the same as the other two. Do not take this as a dont buy. It is fantastic and looks amazing. I personally enjoyed the other two much more.

More challenging than Lego sets, which is nice. It was a bit frustrating at first (I'm used to lego and there are some unique pieces and building techniques), but once I got used to the unique Cobi pieces and the directions it was a alot of fun. I totally recommend at least trying a Cobi set. I will certainly purchasing more of these sets!

I buy these for my nephew. He LOVES them. He is really into the historical ships from USS wars.. and He puts them together in no time. Great quality for your buck. Just wish they were a little cheaper. He wants the MIDWAY SHIP., so working on that for next time.

Very nice detail, fun build using techniques that Lego doesn't often use. Lots of specialized parts and movable details. The directions are a little tough to understand if you're used to Legos direction style but a patient and thought out build plan will make that a minor inconvenience. This is the first time I've bought a Cobi set and I gotta admit, I'll buy others. They are great display sets with amazing amounts of detail and because they have historical sets they offer education in history along with the engineering skills that building bricks often help to foster.

Great value, fun project. Easy to assemble. Took my son a couple hours.

Zuerst muß ich dem polnischen Klemmbausteinhersteller (produziert wird Alles in der EU-kein Chinafake!)ein echt großes Lob für seine Kreativität, und die Qaulität der Steine = absolutes "Dänenniveau" aussprechen - ein Traum! Da wird kein Franchise kopiert und auch keinerlei MOCs Anderer geklaut - ebenfalls sehr lobenswert - Top!Habe diese Jahr schon deren Titanic und die beiden UBoot-Modelle U48 Typ VII/C + die poln. Orp Orzel (Adler) gebaut - Spitze!!Jetzt aber endlich zu diesem Modell, der USS238-Wahoo - nach dem Raubfisch "Wahoo" benannt (gehörte der Gato-Class an): Warum musste Cobi hier unbedingt den Scale von 1:100 auf 1:144 ändern?!Bei den beiden anderen U-Boot Modellen die jeweils 66cm bzw. 84cm lang waren, hat es optisch super gepasst!Ja, bei 1:100 wäre die Wahoo halt 95cm lang geworden (das Original war 95,30m lang!!! - wäre toll gewesen!War es der Baustein-Preiskalkulation geschuldet oder hatten die Ingenieure bei Cobi keinen Bock mehr auf dieses Teil!?!? - die Bordkanone hier ist viel zu groß, andere Aufbauten-Details fehlen zur Gänze (ich werde mir das selbernachmocen)! - das soll aber keineswegs heißen, das dieses Modell nicht gut wäre!!!Bauweise + Anleitung wie immer leicht für Jeden zu verstehen - viele Spezialteile die Lego nicht hat bzw. wahrscheinlich nie haben wird,lol!Ich oute mich hier als absoluter "Cobi-Fanboy" trotz meine Altersgruppe von 50+ !Die Polen schaffen, was andere Hersteller nicht fertig bringen - das ist hohe, durchdachte Klemmbausteiningenieurskunst in kreativster Form - absulut Spitze!!!"Viel Spass beim Bauen liebe Noppensteincommunity!" ;-))PS: Ich hätte gerne 4,5* Sterne verteilt, geht ja leider nicht! - der "kleine" Kritikpunkt von mir, sollte nur ein kleinerDenkanstoß für das Cobi-Team gewesen sein - alles toll!

Cobi liefert mit dem U-Boot „Wahoo“ ein tolles Modell. Trotz des - im Vergleich zu den anderen Cobi-U-Booten - kleineren Maßstabs ist das fertige U-Boot immer noch stolze 66 cm lang.Der Zusammenbau ist unkompliziert und macht allein schon wegen der zahlreichen Richtungsumkehrer Spaß. Einzig der umfangreiche Stickerbogen trübt das Bauvergnügen. Hier hätte ich mir ein paar bedruckte Teile mehr gewünscht - auch wenn dies einen höheren Preis bedeutet.Cobi-typisch fällt das Ergebnis sehr massiv aus. Bis auf die filigranen Schiffsschrauben und ggf. den Turm verzeiht die Wahoo auch mal den einen oder anderen Sturz aus dem Regal und könnte im Notfall sogar als Knüppel herhalten :)Bei dem aktuell günstigen Preis von unter 25 Euro lohnt es sich meiner Ansicht nach schon das Set noch mal als Teilespender zu erwerben. Spezielle modellbezogene Formteile sind kaum vorhanden und selbst wenn man die großen Außenteile und ein paar giftgrüne Blöcke aus dem Innenleben abzieht bleiben noch jede Menge Cobi-Standardteile vorwiegend in hellgrau und anthrazit übrig

Bei der USS Wahoo handelt es sich um ein sehr schönes Modell, das viel Freude beim Aufbau bereitet. Dieser nahm in etwa 1,5 Stunden in Anspruch. Die Qualität ist gewohnt gut und das Modell überaus stabil.Wirklich störend waren in diesem Fall allerdings die Sticker. Teilweise zieht sich ein einzelner Sticker über acht Teile, was zum einen das präzise Aufkleben erschwert und es zum anderen unmöglich macht, das Modell wieder auseinanderzubauen.Von diesem Manko einmal abgesehen bereitet das Modell aber viel Freude und ist seinen Preis wert.
