Rockabye baby!
My four year old daughter has a whole family of assorted dolls and cuddly toys who live a rather halcyon existence, variously spending their time at tea parties, being pushed around the garden and generally being well loved, though they are a little high maintenance. Until a little while ago, when bedtime came around, worn out by all their activities, they had been lying their weary heads on a blanket where they were lovingly tucked in every night. When the four year old's birthday was on the way she informed us that what she really wanted was a bed for her family as Charlie and Freddie were getting fed up of the floor.I was drawn to this Rocking cradle by two things really, the fact that I know from other items that we have bought that John Crane items are normally excellent, and the fact that frankly it looked very cute on the picture - the only alternative I had tracked down was a plastic bed from Toysrus which I was a bit loathe to buy.The cradle comes ready to be assembled. Assembly was not very tricky at all, (8 screws, good instructions) and once put together the night before the youngest's birthday I was really pleased with the results. This is a sturdy and well made bed. The rubberwood is well finished, though the base is of MDF (it was a little tricky but not impossible to slot in whilst I was putting everything together with a Philips screwdriver), it is solid enough. What you can't see in the picture is that the bed comes with a little cotton mattress, as well as the co-ordinating pillow and reversible sheet set you can see in the picture. These are beautifully made (in Thailand according to the label) and fit well into the bed, they are washable too. The whole thing is just the right size for Baby Annabel and co. who can be nicely tucked up and gently rocked. What you see is what you get here really, suffice to say that probably due to its pinkness, my daughter loved this cradle on sight and it has been used every single night since for various dolls and teddies and often is part of her play at bedtime too. It can be rocked gently and does not take up too much space, whilst being made of strong and solid wood, as it is rubberwood there are not knots and it isn't an over grainy finish. I like the fact that the wood (which is from sustainable sources apparently) is so well finished with no rough edges and well applied varnish and paint. I think that this item looks really nice even to adult eyes - it fits in well in her room as the colours are not too garish, it's just a lovely and traditional item.I really recommend this cradle if you have a child who loves dolls - it would have been a waste of money for my eldest who never has really played with them, but for my youngest it really is something she cherishes and also one of very few items that I will keep for the next generation. I think it would be good for any child from age 18 months or so up. I feel that this cradle is great value for the price you pay as it is a quality toy that any doll fan is sure to love!

Fantastic little cradle
I can only agree with the other reviews here, this is a really nice cradle, of good quality and very easthetically pleasing, which I bought for my niece's 2nd birthday as she is very fond of her baby dolls.I can't think why the age recommendation is from age 3 upwards as there are absolutely no hazards associated with this whatsoever once it's been put together. The wood is smooth so there's no risk of splinters, and assembling it is a real breeze, just requiring a standard screwdriver for the 8 screws and so simple it can be done in mintues without even glancing at the instructions. The mattress and pillow are nice, but the blanket is a bit on the flimsy side; I gave my niece a cheap baby blanket from Primark to accomany the cradle, but it's not an essential extra by any means. The cradle itself seems really sturdy and durable and I'm sure it'll last for many years. It's a good size and should fit most dolls. In conclusion, if you're looking for a really nice looking doll's cradle that will last for years, I'd say this is definitely worth the money and I thoroughly recommend it for any doll-loving child.

A great quality little cot for the money
Santa bought this for my 21 month old daughter. It was worth it to see the look on her face as she was thrilled. It was easy to put together, I think well made for the money. It comes with bedding. If its a gift do get a little doll to put in there as it makes a difference. I really like the fact that it rocks as one piece therefore decreased risk of accidents. Its also a good size cradle, my daughter was actually able to climb into it a few times but has lost interest in doing that now. Luckily its quite low to the ground!

Super toy
A lovely wooden bed for my granddaugher's dolls. It's really well-made, very strong and all edges/corners are smooth and safe for a toddler. It's even robust enough for her to climb in, although I don't encourage it! The bedclothes are pretty, well made if a bit thin, but I don't think a 2 year old is worried about such details! I crocheted a blanket to complete the set and she absolutely loves it. A much better buy in my opinion than the plastic cribs and beds available. This should withstand a lot of play, I doubt some of the others would. Great buy.

good value but....
I ordered this cot as it clearly states no assembly would be required. However the box clearly states that adult assembly is needed. Although it was not difficult it did require a screwdriver and my daughters help to hold the pieces in place while I screwed them together. If you are giving it as a present it is better to make the cot beforehand otherwise it is just a box of wooden pieces!

Lovely but does require assembly
This is a lovely toy and I'm sure my grand-daughter will love it. But why, in the product details, does it say that assembly is not required when this product does require assembly? Look forward to hearing why this has happened.

Well made traditional play.
Our 2 year old grand daughter loves playing with this. Big enough for life sized dolls, in fact she has even (with Mum's supervision) put her 6 week old sister in it. Being wood it is durable enough that it is sure to be passed on down the family. Easy to assemble and well finished.

This is one of my best toy purchases
This is one of my best toy purchases. My daughter loves her baby dolls and prams. This has been a lovely addition to the collection. If is great quality and it's lovely to have a wooden bed rather than plastic tat. It also comes with a great bedding set. I put it together really easily. We've had it for almost two years now and not only does it still look great but it is played with every day.
