VERY fast!
I took advantage of a Black Friday deal to buy this 10Gbe switch to replace a 1Gbe model. I'm now getting SSD speeds (around 600MB/s) transferring files between my desktop computer and the NAS storage device on Windows. A very worthwhile upgrade!

Rock solid switch
Update Feb 20202Unlike others' experience, this switch has been rock solid. (I suspect there's different HW/FW versions out there in the wild and I just got lucky), its coping with 5x10Gbe connections, 1x5Gbe and 2x2.5Gbe and coping like a champ. A beast of a switch and silent even when the fans ramp up.We have a Unifi setup at home with 7 switches, and 4x access points and I have been very happy with it. However, I wanted to upgrade the core backbone to 10Gbe, and to this end I purchased:The XS08M, a GS110EMX and a Zyxel XGS1010-12 all linked with Cat 8 EthernetComing from Unifi, I have to say I am impressed with the Netgear switches, they just work.I have had no issues at all with the 10Gbe network, (the XS508M connects to a Unifi 48 Port Switch and thats where the 1Gb and 10 Gbe networks meet. My CCTV and OT devices are all on the 1Gb network, together with the 4 WiFi access points, Meanwhile my NAS Drives, MacBook Pro, Surface Pro 7 and iPad Pro all connect to the 10Gbe network via the QNAP 5Gb USB ethernet adapter (QNAP TS453a), Plugable 2.5Gb USB adapter (Surface Pro 7), OWC 10Gbe Thunderbolt 3 adapter (MacBook Pro 16" i9) and the native 10Gbe adapter (Terramaster F2-422).I have had no lockups, or issues with heat etc. Its been rock solid.BTW, the Plugable 2.5Gbe adapter is well worth the £30 cost if you are upgrading to beyond 1Gb networking.

Nice switch
The XS508M does the job well and keeps very cool without increased fan speed. People are correct about the fan, it does make a somewhat annoying noise, though it is still what I'd call quiet. Personally I don't mind it as I have other fans near my desk, that mostly drown it out anyway. Curriously I also have an MS510TXPP, but the fan in this is very quiet and just makes a slight wind noise as apposed to the somewhat whiny noise of the XS508M, but you don't get many 10Gb ports with the MS510TXPP.

What bliss, Ignore anyone that says you don't need 10GbE in the home.
If you work with large files this is great. Peaking at 120MB per second from SAN to PC. This hub is fast. The theoretical maximum speed of a 10G network is 125MB per sec. Or in media terms a 1.8GB video file copies in just 16 seconds. If you are moving 4K/UHD video about its a must.

Plug'n Go. Wonderful
As usual, a terrific Netgear Product. My home network now at 10Gbps overall. all I needed was to make sure I'd get my NAS and computers to 10Gbps and it was done! Recommend: YES !

It is noisy and caused by a design defect and one failed after 2 weeks!
XS- 724EM-100EUS Switch*******************************UPDATE 6 March 2020NETGEAR Tech Support have examined my noise recordings and have concluded that the Switch is working as designed. Case #: 42387250The fact remains that the power supply in the unit is unnecessarily audibly noisy, and so this unit cannot be recommended to be installed in the open in a room or office. If installed in a server room, that location would be satisfactory. The unit retains its 1/5 rating because of the unnecessarily poor noisy design of the internal power supply.JP BSc (Hons) Electronics, University of SouthamptonUPDATE: 5 March 2020NETGEAR Tech support are now looking into my noise complaint on what is claimed to be a "whisper quiet" switch; I have asked for two replacement power supplies that I can easily fit myself. I will report back.UPDATE: 28 November 2018Advance replacement arrived from Amazon UK; I must now ship back the faulty unit (FOC to me). I really do appreciate Amazon's customer service, which is why I buy so much from them. Thank you.UPDATE: 26 November 2018Update, one of the two units that has been working for two weeks has now failed! So now a 1 ratingUPDATE: 10 November 2018My second switch arrived which was just like the one I had before and the advance replacement from Netgear. This too has the design and manufacturing defect of a mechanically noisy power supply. Rating stays at 2* because of noise.9 November 2018 (updated)This is my second and final re-write of my original review. The switch is now installed in my attic and it is good to see the 10GB connections and a variety of slower connections. The physical install was so easy and the firmware update to the latest version was also both very quick and easy. The Prosafe-Plus utility just does not work in that it cannot find any of my Netgear switches; it is far easier to rely on the web interface to configure it. I am using Windows 8.1 Pro.I like the port status and cable tester feature although I know my CAT6A cables are good it was good to see my NASs connect at 10Gb without error.I have two criticisms with the first being Netgear's support and the second being a very poor and unacceptable design failure in the switch.First Netgear's support: they are slow and unresponsive and require you calling a premium rate number in the UK for support. It is cheaper and quicker for you to dial the USA direct on +1 408 907 8000 using Skype; Netgear Technical support refuse to give out a UK geographical number and insist you use their premium rate number that they make a bit of money on! I dialled the USA number, and after keying in my incident number was kept waiting 12 minutes so I hung up without speaking to anyone. So good luck with Tech Support, it is poor.Second, the switch has a significant design error in it. When I received my first switch from Amazon, it was audibly quite noisy, so I wrote a review here complaining about the fan noise and Netgear responded and issued an advance replacement. When I powered up the replacement before installing it, I noted it was just as noisy as the original unit, so I took the cover off and examined the internals and have found that:• The three fans come on at switch-on, and after initialisation just one fan remains on and is acceptably quiet.• The noise is coming from the Switching Mode Power Supply (SMPS), so I undid the plastic cover and believe the noise is because the power supply has not been designed properly to keep noise levels at an acceptable level. I have been unable to attach an audio recording of the SMPS.My conclusions are:• I am very surprised that Netgear design engineers, quality assurance and quality control find the audible power supply noise acceptable. I have never come across any SWPSs that generate noise, and especially none at this extreme level.• Any XS724EM will have the same noisy power supply.Ideally, I would like Netgear to examine the audio recording I sent them of the power supply and replace the power supply within this model of switch with one that is fit for purpose. I offered a couple of options to Netgear but did not receive a prompt response.I have a real problem: I need 2 24port 10Gb switches and this switch fully meets my needs; one will be upstairs and not heard and the second will be in my office. I cannot find a similar switch at a comparable price.I have decided to order a second switch off Amazon and very very reluctantly accept the design fault that keeps the switch very noisy. I'll need to incorporate some acoustic shielding to keep the noise down. Therefore the Switch deserves a "2" rating because of the design failure should have been identified and corrected before the switch went into production and also because of Netgear's poor support. If Netgear send me two replacement silent power supplies, I'll amend the rating accordingly, but I wont hold my breath.

Always use Netgear.
Alway use use and recomend Netgear products and they seem to have a good reputation.I have an two of these unitsd now and the older unit has a fan that has become noisey not dramatically just enough to annoy me in a quiet room. As 10gb seems a little more popular now I think the price is too high.
