A legit and excellent musical instrument
This sopranino recorder is a legitimate musical instrument despite the fact that it is priced as if it were just a toy. The tone is really rather impressive with an accurately intoned and complex sounding lower end and a ringing and brilliant high end. Overall I'm very impressed, and not just because of the price. It can stand in comparison to a wooden instrument, but a wooden instrument would definitely sound more rounded and resonant-but thats what you get by spending upwards of 1000% more. Also there's the added benefit of not having to care meticulously for it.Any complaints about intonation are really poorly founded. A wind instrument of any sort (at least that I'm aware of) will never play perfectly on pitch when you simply blow any stream of air through it. Its always possible to be a little flat and more likely a little sharp even on a blockflute type instrument like a recorder. That said, a good instrument will limit the discrepancy by which you can be sharp or flat and still produce a sound, and this recorder does that quite well. You do have to wield it with a good sense of control, but after getting your feel for the instrument down, that should come quite naturally. This instrument is worthy enough to be recorded or performed with other A=440 instruments and sounds.Any one who likes playing recorder should definitely pick this one up. It's cheap, more portable than a soprano, very fun to play, and definitely worthwhile for anyone with a serious musical intent. This is the smallest size recorder that can be easy played by someone familiar with the larger sizes. The garklein really is a pain in the ear and a pain in the a$$, but still fun for a gag. The finger spacing on a sopranino should be comfortable with average sized hands or less, and workeable so long as you are not Shaq or Andre the giant. Yamaha products have always struck me as quality and trustworthy and this recorder is no exception.

Awesome Soprano!
This is a top-notch professional plastic sopranino recorder. It's so much fun to play due to its bright, happy sound, and quick response. I was able to get all of the notes out with ease, and it sounded great!I will have to mention that for this recorder, make sure you're using your breath correctly, or else the sound will get a little harsh and unclear. This recorder is probably also not recommended for beginners, unless they are passionate about learning recorder and challenges won't stop them.

It's basically a ulta portable recorder (but in F)
Yes, it is one of the many recorders which make up an ensemble, but from the perspective of a person who will likely never play in one: it's a pocket sized recorder. It plays exactly like all the rest. It is technically like a mini Alto recorder, not a mini soprano, but solo, it doesn't matter. It's a nice little recorder to just throw in a bag or keep in your pocket if you have some spare time you can play a few tunes or entertain some kids. It can be a little shrill and takes greater breath control than larger recorders. However, how many pocket sized, fully chromatic instruments can you get for about 20 bucks. So, works nice for ultra-portable music entertainment and on-the-go practice. It is high pitch, the sound really travels, so just keep that in mind when selecting your playing location/time.

Plays well, but it is one solid piece
Even though it came with joint cream, it does not twist apart at any of the junctions where it does on my instructor's to make adjustments. Otherwise, the sound is wonderful and it plays really nicely.

Excellent quality and performance
Everything about this instrument is fantastic down to the carrying case. You can tell they put genuine thought into what they wanted from this recorder. As an added bonus, they through in some recorder cream. The tone of the sopranino is lovely and has a wonderful upper range. I will definitely be purchasing more products from Yamaha in the future.

I like it.
I like it.It projects a more mellow tone than I was expecting from a Sopranino.I was afraid it would be quite shrill, but this is not the case at all.One thing I'm puzzled about, is why the blowhole isn't curved as it is on other Yamaha 300 and 400 series recorders. This one has a rectangular blowhole. Not a huge issue, but I really wanted to try one with a curved hole so I could check out the lighter breathing requirements versus a rectangular blowhole.I guess I'll have to get one of the larger recorders to test that theory.I plan on purchasing an Alto or tenor in the near future anyway. It comes with a canvas pouch that I'm not too thrilled with.I would have preferred a simulated leather pouch because they're easier to keep clean, but not a big issue.I actually wish they'd come with a fitted hard case with a springy hinge like you see on hard eyeglass cases.Unfortunately nobody I'm aware of makes one of those.Much more portable than a soprano, and not freaky shrill like a Garklein.I think it's pretty classy looking with the ivory colored tip only, rather than the usual three segments that are ivory colored.I always thought those looked kind of goofy, but this ivory colored tip by itself, is a nice touch! But I recommend this recorder?Absolutely!

Great Yamaha quality recorder .
YRN-302B , straight windway , double holes , 2 pc. , Yamaha quality . This is a very small recorder . I haven't played with it very much yet , but it seems in tune and has a good tone for being so small . This would be good for someone with tiny hands . I probably won't use it much but , didn't have a sopranino in my Yamaha plastic recorder collection . Well worth the $20 , as this is not a toy , it's a real quality instrument .

a fair sopranino
I've quite a bit of experience with recorders. I currently have this sopranino, a soprano and an alto. Yamaha has been for 20 years my maker of choice (I play in church services, with friends, have played in amator groups). Well priced, extremely good recorders. This sopranino is fine but not great because the blowing hole is straight and not curved, the sound is a little windy. The tune is perfect though as for any yamaha and for short pieces it's good to have it.
