Paramount Automotive Restyling 51-0042 Black Front Steel Fender with Flare Mesh Insert (Jeep Wrangler TJ)

For context, I'll start by saying I'm a 61-year old Jeep TJ owner who has some experience with metalworking and welding, and who has done a fair amount of homework before buying these fenders. I had never heard of Paramount before this purchase, so I did not have any prejudices either good or bad.The packaging is totally inadequate. The metal is wrapped in bubble wrap -- the kind of thing you'd expect when ordering a wrist watch or something light. Clearly, the corners need some sort of better protection, such as styrofoam. Because of the inadequate packaging, there are several spots where the powder coating is chipped off. FYI, each fender weighs 33 pounds; I measured using my bathroom scale.These fenders just arrived, so I have not yet installed them. I have opened the packaging and inspected them. I am concerned that their extreme weight may require me to add spring support. I'm going to measure the front end both before and after. I wasn't expecting spring sag when I bought them, but I'm afraid it's inevitable. To be clear, the weight is not in itself the reason for my poor rating on this product. I just thought I should mention it for those mulling it over. If there's a silver lining, with weight comes strength. I do believe these fenders will stand up to abuse.The finish and overall quality control is bad. In fact, it's like Paramount doesn't even understand the concept of quality control. Hey fellas, at least hire a smart quality control monkey to check for things like metal burrs and excess welding wire. Holy crap! When there are surface blemishes -- and, trust me, there are plenty -- Paramount's solution is to simply powder coat right over them, as though the customer just won't notice. I had heard from previous reviewers that the powder coating on these fenders is bad, so I expected that. But, now I need to break out my angle grinder and flap wheel to round the sharp corners, smooth the metal burrs, and generally fix the mistakes that should have been caught by the monkey. So, I'm pretty much going to finish these things myself, and by necessity I'm going to destroy the powder coating. FYI, I wasn't hung up on the powder coating because I'm going to paint them to match my Jeep's color, just because that's my preference. I'm confident that once I'm done with my work they'll look fine on my Jeep. I wish these were available for less money in unfinished (raw) steel, so that the purchaser could just do what he wants with them.Yes, they were one of the more inexpensive flat fenders out there on the market. But, at any price, they are cheaply made. Shame on me for thinking I was going to get a good product at a reasonable price. Shame on you if you read this review and order them anyway. Cave at emptor! My advice is to save up a little longer and go for a more reputable brand. Don't make my mistake. It is unfathomable that anyone with either integrity or common sense can give this product a five-star rating.p.s. If anyone reading this is willing to drive to the Dover DE area for pickup, I'll sell these (both front and rear) to you for less than I paid for them. I'll warn you that I'll be getting the better end of the deal.

LOVE the wide fender flares with the double tubing. Very sturdy. Exceeded our expectations. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice they were for the price compared to the price of other jeep fender flares.We only wish they made a 6" wide tube, high clearance matching fender flare for the rear.

I bought these fenders in spring of 2017. Honestly 3 years later, theyre crap. Paint is pealing and rusting pretty bad especially underneath the fender. I dont even drive my Jeep in New England winters. Another issue I had was the hood clamp mounting holes. At the time there was one hole drilled for the bolt but not the two other notches found on the base of the hood clamps. The bolt holes are far off from each other in comparison. In other words one hole is not in the exact spot as the other.......idk why? Oh wait yea I do.......THEYRE CRAP. Wish I bought some bare steel poison fenders for like $500 and painted them myself with truck bed coating so when they get scuffed up just blast it with some $7 rattle can paint and youre good to go. I gave these paramount fenders 3 stars because I have hit trees and some stuff in the woods and they dont dent. Do yourself the favor and spend the few extra on some good fenders. Or just buy these and sell you Jeep.

Unlike some other reviews. mine did come packed with Styrofoam, including a huge block between them. It also did have the box of bolts and stuff, and was full. It also came with the lights, however they wont work for me as they are 2 wire. But they are there at least. No scratches or anything, and coat seems solid. Time will tell if they rust like some others have had.. Also a bit heavier than i was expecting for a cheaper set. Not a bad thing, just surprised as i expected to be a bit more flimsy by going cheap.EDIT: A year later, starting to rust around the edges and at weld points. After only a single really mild winter.

I installed these this weekend on my 06 by myself and they look amazing. Solid and well built. Coating is a perfect match with the rail and rear fenders.

I like these for the price, yeah your might get some dinged powder coat areas based on how they package it.I just touched up these areas and sealed the tubes under neath with black RTV keeps the dirt and grime out to prevent rust starting. I live in a non rust belt area and semi low on humidity. These are nice fenders all in all. Mine came with the LED lights and with all hardware. You will have to use the bolts for back side plate to fender supports. You will have to remove the clip nuts from factory as well. That’s about it! Also removal of both battery trays need corner cutting.

Nice sturdy design. The only issue I had was the packaging was terrible. Corners were sticking out of box and lightly wrapped in cheap bubble wrap. One fender had a spot about 2 inches long that was clean cut metal like a grinder hit it luckily it was on side you dont see when installed. Also one fender had spaces light could get througb were it was supposed to be welded at area were 3 inch flare comes off the fender. Besides that they look good and Im happy with it. You need to download smittybilt install instructions since these had none. Do not be suprised if any of the heavy fender and bumper items arrive beat up everything Ive ordered like this no matter what company looked like they fell off several trucks. Probably the delivery companies to blame.

These are great. They are strong and work very well. I strongly recommend these. The are fair priced. They came well packaged and in a timely manner. I have recommended these to others. The only thing I do not understand is why the do not include the instructions, I downloaded some from another company. If the directions were included I would have gave them a five! thanks for your service and product, I will be buying them again.
