The Best American Science Fiction And Fantasy 2021

I bought this for my grandson and he liked it very much. Had read other books by this author and was pleased with present.

Was not impressed how the 2 stories I read were all over the place. no cohesion to the stories. Didn't bother to read the rest.

Ted Kosmatka “The Beast Adjoins.” Read the collection for this one alone. I saw an article where the author could not stop thinking about this short story and I couldn’t agree more. It’s really something else, a fresh take on AI that messes with your head for sure.This is a solid collection. I found some new authors to read, their novels as I’m really not much of a short story reader, which is always nice.

I got this book as a gift for Christmas : I've read about half of it.As a long time science fiction reader these stories actually disgust me.I've read some terrible horror and bad science fiction before,and I know trash with very little redeeming qualities when I read it.First off, there is a lack of new ideas and innovation, to say nothing of humor.John W. Campbell would have turned these stories down for publication if they had been submitted to him. I blame Veronica Roth for diluting the good name of Science Fiction by publishing this collection.I'm sure that the real Science Fiction writers of this generation are going hungry because this womanlacks the taste and knowledge to recognize their originality.Be warned this book is a false one.

What can you expect when you assign a non-sci fi, hack author to select the "best" sci fi/fantasy stories of the year. You get crap, aka, some of the worst stories that makes the reader wonder how they were published to begin with. Non politically correct comment: STOP SELECTING STORIES BASED ON AUTHOR'S GENDER/ORIENTATION/COLOR/NATIONAL ORIGIN! SELECT STORIES BASED ON MERIT! Is that so hard to do. Well, for the editor of this collection, a self-styled woke feminist, I suppose that was asking the impossible. Fortunately, I borrowed this from our local library where I am about to take it back. BLAH! Kinda makes me angry the library even bought this book.

I read a few of the Best American anthologies this year, and this one was easily my favorite cover to cover. A great mix of new authors and more established ones in the sci-fi and fantasy genres.

All stories had a very dark theme, often with dying being the main story line.
