This is hand-painted artistic piece of a scissors' dancer from Peru. It makes a great souvenir or collection piece. Each figure is hand-painted by local artists. The Scissors Dance (in Spanish Danza de las Tijeras) is a traditional dance from the Quechua villages of Southern Peru. The dance typically consists of two or more dancers (called dansaq) with a background mini-band of a violin and a harp and the sounds of iron rods representing scissors blades that are used by the dancers. The community of Ichimay Wari (established in 1999) is an association of craftsmen from Peru. Their name comes from Quechua, an old native language spoken in the Peruvian Andes. “Ichimay” which is the God of Lurin Valley where they are located today and “Wari” refers to the empire that controlled the Peruvian Andes and the Ayacucho area their ancestors came from in 500 to 1000 AD. The community creates beautiful art using Andean themes in the city of Lurin.
