I had this mounted on my chainsaw. My first tach (same one) was able to pickup the rpm just by holding it near the saw. I lost the first one and the replacement isnt quite as sensitive. Other than that they work well and are really usefull for tuning. My only disappointment is they are creating more land waist by not making the batteries replaceable.

I own two Honda walk-behind mowers, one from year 1998, another from 2008. Both still work and run fine but I suspected that their engine running speed was a little low. I used this mini-tachometer as a stand-alone, hand-held instrument. Started mower, warmed up for 5 minutes, had wife keep mower running while I carefully walked in front of one of the wheels (blade spinning) and with Tachometer in my hand, reached over near the spark plug wire and observed the running RPM (2890). Stopped mower, adjusted (bent) the aluminum governor control a tiny amount (with pliers), restarted mower, remeasured speed (2970). Again stopped mower, slightly adjusted the governor mechanism, restarted (3090). The ideal speed is 3100 RPM, so I was finished. Mower cut better now, much smoother, finished look. Repeated the entire process with my 2nd mower, adjusting from 2840 to 3110 RPM. All good. I have noticed that the mowers' gas "mileage" is somewhat poorer with the slight increase in motor speed - but the cut quality is obviously better for sure (blades sharp).

I was a bit sceptical about buying this Tach / Hour meter, but after the first time I used it to set up the new carburetor on my chainsaw, I was completely impressed with the ease and accuracy of the tachometer. Just lay it next to the spark plug and it instantly picks up the induction from the plug wire and reads out the RPM's. There was no need to connect the included wire for any of the lawn equipment I tried this on. This is easily one of the best little "tools" in my box, and for the price, if / when the battery dies, I will definetely buy another.

Just hold it close to the spark plug and it reads RPM. Also can be mounted on the unit to teach run time hours . So inexpensive I bought two !Factory settings and carbs with limiter caps do not work up here at 4,000’ . Set the mixture with max RPM at idle and see it back down as you turn the screw , set it down 500 . Then crank it up toMax speed . Look up your unit’s spec and set Torre limit . Now starts well & runs great !!!
