Square Baking Pan - Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron 8x8Inches

I've had this pan for a couple years now, and I use it to cook breakfast and dinner almost every day. It's the perfect size for fitting in a large toaster type oven. It heats evenly and keeps the food warm for a good 15 minutes after removing from the oven. The seasoning is well applied and works. The flavor this pan adds to food is amazing, it continues to get better with time.Normally I put the oven on 400F and put a couple strips of bacon in the pan, than after about 8 minutes I add some meat such as ground beef and eggs, and drop the temp to 300F. Then after a few minutes I remove the pan and sit it on a cooling rack, and the food will finish cooking over the next few minutes as the pan also cools a bit.This pan will also work well for fish cooked in butter or bacon fat for example, but I would suggest having one pan for fish and an different one for meats just to avoid the meats tasting like fish. I did learn the hard way do NOT add lemon juice to the fish when cooking in cast iron, it will strip the seasoning and you will have small rusty spots where the lemon juice was.

This cast iron pan looks well made and best of all if fits in the toaster oven. All is great so far.

It’s not a true 8x8. The top of the opening is 8x8. However, it slopes down to 6.5 x 6.5 at the base. Might be tricky to get pieces of cornbread or brownies out of it. It appears to be too small for my purpose of smoking a duck or small pork roast in my small stainless steel smoker. The sides are deep and it will make a good frittata in the oven. While not the quality of a lodge pan it, it has many mold imperfections, it’s still a sturdy cooking pan.

Like several other reviewers, I bought this specifically to bake corn bread. I've tried to find a pan that cooks as well as my grandmother's 50+ year old pan and this one certainly does! I've tried all types of baking pans, but this one is perfect for corn bread - it holds heat well and creates a corn bread with the perfect dark crunchy crust and tender crumb. The pre-seasoning helps a lot, and it is incredibly easy to clean; just wipe it out with a paper towel after each use, and occasionally apply a very small amount of fat to the inside and turn it upside-down over a gas stove for a few minutes. Unlike aluminum or Teflon coated pans, cast iron will only get better with age and use. It will probably last my life time and then some!

For the price I expected much higher quality. How this product is getting 5 star reviews is beyond me. Received this pan as a Christmas gift and was excited to use despite the casting flaws and rough surface, but when I turned it over and saw the misspelled brand name cast into the bottom, it kinda blew my mind. Then when I found out what it cost I knew it was going back. So I returned it and ordered another, only to find the same spelling error, and the cooking surface was pitted and had imprinting from the mold used to cast the pan. At the $39 price point, higher than almost any Lodge pan, I would think these duds would be screened out, but apparently the dud is their best work. I’ll pass on a third attempt. Oh, and btw, if you go to the manufacturer’s website you can see that their products are definitely made in China. And don’t bother calling the phone number listed. It goes straight to some hick’s voicemail and dies.

I love the size of this pan. I purchased it for my for her birthday. I wanted to introduce to a cast iron square baking pan because she loves to bake cornbread. I thought this would be perfect. In the beginning, I was looking at a larger pan and I thought it was too big and discussed this smaller size one with her. She decided to try the smaller pan because of the weight of the larger pan. This pan is made for quality baking it already seasoned which is an added bonus. It is has the handles on the sides and perfect for a small family. I think it great for my parents because they like to bake breads in smaller and larger pans. I think that being able to find a product that is durable and able to withstand the heat is important. I look forward to hearing her baking stories while using this baking pan.

I bake my own corn bread (Fannie Farmer cookbook recipe sans sugar - it makes an 8 inch square pan). I'm from the South. I DO NOT put sugar in my corn bread ... so I bake my own! I don't know how many el cheapo 8x8 inch pans I've gone through since I got married, but it's a LOT. I fully expect THIS pan to do an even better job. I didn't even know such a thing existed until I looked at Amazon!! I haven't actually tried it yet, but plan to do so soon and will let you know if it does not perform up to my expectations. I love using cast iron and expect no problems. It's nice and heavy. I love the depth and the nifty handles.Thank you Amazon.comWell, I've been using this pan for quite a while, now ... I can say it it is an excellent product and very worthy of any cornbread you want to make ... or anything else that requires this size pan. This is quite a nice pan and just the right size for the cornbread recipe I use. The results are a drastic improvement from the pyrex pan i had been using. So crispy!The pan itself is a lot rougher than my lodge cast iron pans. The first thing I do with any cast iron is to strip it and re-season it with flax oil. (Google season cast iron with flax oil to see why I do this). After I re-seasoned it, the pan was much less rough and nothing (nothing!) sticks to it at all.I don't know why lodge doesn't make a square pan like this, but it doesn't really matter because I have this one. It's a definite must get item in my opinion.
