RE: This thing is EPIC and easy to install
Ever since I was a young man and saw that Farside comic strip about the teenagers poking out poor innocent resident's eyes out thru their tiny door peephole using an ice pick (You know the one I'm talking about), I have had a phobia about tiny door peepholes. Then, I saw that my sister had one of these on her front door and EUREKA! I'm saved from my irrational fears. Bonus! It was very easy to install and functions perfectly with a very clear picture with adequate lighting. REMEMBER! that this functions like a camera obscura and requires ambient lighting to transmit the image and is NOT electronic in any way. SO if you can't see a damn thing on your porch at night THEN install some super bright flood lights on your porch and problem solved (Sadly, My HOA will not allow me to modify my townhouse as of now). I get many compliments about this gadget and people find it magical! Fascinating! The Kids simple LOVE it! Great purchase! Now, GO out and get on now!

Works well, but NOT brass
The part that faces outward is solid brass...no qualms there. The part that faces inside (pictured) is orange anodized aluminum. I don't mind the material, but it doesn't match the existing brass hardware on my door. My deadbolt is antique brass, and the chain anchor is polished brass (which will be painted white soon). I'll have to tape off the inner lens and paint the peephole white so that I don't have an orange peephole mucking up my door. It works well though and provides a MASSIVE field of view (hence the four stars).

Works Great, even in low light.
Great product. I can see people walking in the street from 10 feet away from my front door. Please keep in mind that this doorscope is gold colored. Not brass. It will not match brass colored door fixtures. This is solidly made. I received the package only 4 days after ordering. Unfortunately, when I received it, the prism was cracked. I followed the proper steps and left VW Optics a message. Vicki from VW Optics responded quickly and informed me that she personally checks all items before shipping them and that it must have happened en route. She promptly sent a new prism which is very easy to replace. It takes less than 15 minutes to install. If VW Optics sold a silver colored metal doorscope I would replace this gold one.

Disappointed
First of all, the item arrived promptly and in good condition. It is made of metal and appears well-finished and feels well-made. No complaints here at all.The unit is quite large in diameter but I thought that would provide a good viewing area. Unfortunately this is not like seeing an image on the rear screen of a camera that can be viewed from any angle. I have to stand directly in front of the eyepiece at eye-level before anything can be seen. Installed at the average adult height, neither my wife who is 6 inches shorter than me nor my 4 ft tall grand son will be able to see anything at all without the help of a stepping stool. Additionally, my west facing house has a covered front porch although the area is certainly not dark. But that is not enough light in the morning for a clear view. In the afternoon, the western sun lights up the back of the visitor but not the front, again making it difficult to see the details. The lens is wide-angled though. I believe this item will work well in a well-lit area, and with light preferably coming from the side and the front.I ended up using a wireless door-bell with a video screen inside the house. Now I can see perfectly even at dusk.

Too blurry to see!
I am incredibly disappointed in this product. When it arrived, I held it up and looked though it. It seemed to be very clear. I installed it in the door yesterday. It is so blurry that I cannot tell who is at the door. I can see a figure, but I cannot tell if it's a man or a woman much less who it is. Now I have a giant 2 3/8 inch hole in my door so it's not like I can send it back or put my old one back in. I'm angry.

Can see - but not clearly
Pros - you don't have to get close in order to see "who or what" is on the other side, and you get a pretty wide view.Cons - It's hard to identify who you are looking at. You have to practice finding the "sweet spot" where you get the clearest view. It also takes some adjustment to look at a mirror image. The lighting has to be really good in front of the person; however too much light behind them can cause a glare that makes it hard to see.

Perfect solution for replacing a bad peephole
I was a little skeptical at first of purchasing this scope because of the costs but there weren’t many options. Very easy to install once I figured it out and after a call to customer service. They told me the trick was having the lenses face each other to project the image properly. If only they had this info on the instructions it would have saved even more time to install it. Overall, looks great and works as expected

No hassle prism replacement
This is my third product purchase. I placed a 5 star this time not because I love it but because of the superb customer service from both Amazon and VW optics company that actually sold them. The item arrived on time and installation was a breeze and I do not have to read the instructions. There was none anyway. The view from the peep hole is good even from 5 to 7 feet distance. The view, as expected, is a mirror image which I am already used to. I checked If I can see from the outside and I can't. However, I noticed that there was a crack on the prism that can be seen from the outside. I send an email to Amazon about the defect and my email was forwarded to the seller company who replied immediately. Their explanation was that the prism must have been damaged during transit as they always inspect these items before mailing. Anyway, they just send me a prism replacement without any hassle.
