Still Chalky after two weeks in bathtub.
Update 5/23/2017: After almost 30 days soaking in the bathtub, it still has the chalky white slime left on my hands when I touch it. I also noticed a white filmy coating at the top of the surface water in the tub.I am not completely sure if this is safe to put in my tank. I have had it submerged in a bath tub for two weeks and when I touch it I still get a chalky slime on my hands. I can't tell if anything is seeping into the water since I have a white bathtub. However, I am concerned about the chalky feel after being submerged for two weeks! Probably going to give it one more week and if the white doesn't stop coming off I will return it.Update 8/3/17: DO NOT BUY THIS!!! I finally got around to putting it in my 90 gallon tank after letting it soak for two months. This WILL cause you problems. One week in my tank and I lost a 5 inch Clown Loach. The SOBs who sell this JUNK need to be sued!!!!Notice the water at the top... full of the fine particles from the ornament. Also notice the dying clown loach. Amazon you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Great addition to any Aquarium
This is a really great addition to my African Cichlid tank. My tank dimensions are roughly 48" wide by 14" deep by 24" tall. Even with the top center brace and the tank full of water I was able to get this in relatively easily. I was looking for a lightweight, natural looking piece to take up as much of the aquarium as possible. I also added some caves as hiding places. This would also be very useful in a reef frag tank for display purposes, the material just doesn't appear to be able to do much in the way of biological filtration. While it's pretty expensive for what it is, I couldn't be happier with it.As other reviews have pointed out, it needs HEAVY rinsing before adding to your tank. I was in the middle of a fishless cycle on a ne tank so I wasn't too concerned but it clouded my water within 24 hours. I can't comment on toxicity as there were no fish in the tank. I also understand that the manufacturer says their formula is proprietary but it would be nice to know what it's made of. I bought a new scrub brush and did what I thought was a thorough cleaning outside with a hose and it still clouded my tank. Since I would be doing a series of large water changes anyway this wasn't really an issue for me.The bottom line is that for my fish only setup. this does an amazing job of taking up most of the tank and providing a great environment for the fish. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. There are two additional things worth mentioning. The first is that the sand and small rocks that are embedded in the material will scratch your glass/acrylic if they come in contact so use caution when installing. Secondly, the back of this follows the same contours as the front. It provides numerous hiding places for fish but they are out of view which means there are a couple fish I only see at feeding time. This can be a positive or a negative depending on your setup but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Not what is pictured!
Product is not what is in the aquarium photo, but the product in the video: These are two different items. The description does not state it is half a "rock" with only one side textured like rock and the other concave from the mold pour. See the attached pictures. Very disappointed, will be returning.

It looks like they have used the mold so much that it ...
I haven't even put this in my fish tank yet, and already I regret buying it!! For the money you pay for this, it should be flawless. There are thin spots on it, and some of it I can stick my finger through (not the holes!). The rocks that help to weigh it down are coming off on the back. It looks like they have used the mold so much that it is now defective. I ignored the other reviews, because I was so hoping mine would be the exception. Not so. I am going to keep it, as I am sure any replacement will be the same (unless it is for a refund, if that is possible) Another note, I have been soaking this since I got it (at least 24 hours now) and it is still leaching so much white stuff that I am sure it will not be white before long. If that happens, I will be returning it for a REFUND! Extremely disappointed. I even had other pieces of Universal Rocks in my cart to buy later...they are now deleted. I will see if I can salvage this, but it is looking unlikely that I will be able too....

Looks great fish love it
Soaked rock and scrubbed with brush for a day to remove any of the white residue. Only from reading the previous reviews of people having issues of cloudy water did I do this. Ended up cutting the item in half to make background look better for my tank but other than that product is perfect, works great, looks great, quality is great. Only thing I would change is if it was more three dimensional however, still works and looks amazing. Two week up date. Cut the peice in half. Looks better in my tank that way. Product had begun to color naturally like my real limestone. Minus not being a full 3D rock this is a must buy for the background of a cichlid tanks.

Terrible product
This insert clouded the water terribly and killed 3 fish! The insert was fine for a couple of weeks and then it started to decay. I had it my aquarium until the water became so cloudy I could barely see my fish. My black sand had become grayish white from the amount of debris falling off of the insert and the amount of debris in the water was enough to stop one of my pumps! I took it out and within a week my tank was clear, yet I am still hydrocleaning out white particles from the black sand after three weeks. I cleaned the insert prior to adding it to the aquarium as directed. After I finally removed it from my aquarium I cleaned it to see it I could remove the remain debris, but that I’ve found is an endless task. The insert had also started forming orange spots on the back (that appeared to be rust possibly from the type of rocks they used to weigh it down) and also had developed a bright pink line where the sand met the water on the insert. I contacted the manufacturer asking how to fix the insert and they continuously blamed me for having poor water quality and that was the reason for the cloudiness never addressing the issue of their product falling apart. After several email exchanges they offered to have me ship it back to them at my cost so they could test it in their aquarium. Do yourself a favor and do not purchase this!
