Perfect for delicious miso soup in 10 minutes!
I love this little tub of miso! I like to cook casually with Japanese ingredients and rather than buying multiple types of miso, I prefer this awase paste, which is a mix aka (red) and shiro (white) miso. It works beautifully for miso soup, providing the perfect balance of savory, salty, miso flavor. It dissolves easily with a bit of stirring/smooshing - I usually dissolve the paste in a small cup of hot water before adding to my soup. I have also steamed vegetables in a bit of dissolved-miso water... not sure if this is a typical use but it's delicious! For anyone creating a miso soup starter pack, I also recommend these items:Ajinomoto - Hon Dashi (Soup Stock) 4.23 Oz.Wel-Pac - Fueru Wakame (Dried Seaweed) Net Wt. 2 Oz. (Pack of 4)

Delicious
I'm not an expert when it comes to Miso, but this is delicious. I add it to all different types of soups as a base though it is fantastic on its own with just some green onion and some dried shittake mushrooms. I've found this perticular blend to be less salty than others I've tried, though I apologize for not remembering the names of those other brands.I will definitely buy this again.

Great tasting Miso paste
Great tasting Miso paste. I love using this for seasoning rice, noodles, or stir fries. The tastes of Miso can vary. This one tastes like what I prefer, which is much like Soy Sauce, but better and less salty. It has a salty taste like Soy Sauce or Teriyaki, but you get more flavour as well as lots of nutrients with less salty taste. I'm a vegetarian and I really like how a spoonful of Miso gives a vegetable stir fry with rice or noodles a full body flavour. I don't like tofu, and I really like that Miso provides essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals to a dish as well as flavour.

Adorable Tub and many days of miso soup
This cute little tub of miso paste just arrived today and I've fallen in love with it. The color of the paste is very rich in color and the texture looks more dissolvable than depicted on the picture provided which means less work trying to thoroughly mix to create miso soup. I think anyone would appreciate this mix of miso because it's actually two types of miso at once that makes life a little more easier. I'm a college student so being able to get my hands on some miso to cook with in my residence hall kitchen is something that I've been looking forward too. Not only can you use this to make Miso Soup but you can also use it as a seasoning or a marinade with certain Chinese and Japanese dishes. Me, I'm someone who enjoys Japanese cooking so as far as a hearty bowl of Miso soup goes and a simple substitute for pancit meals, I've got something going for me. Also the container has a recipe for simple soup already on it so i recommend trying it out before searching on the internet for a decent recipe.

New to this one
Bought this our of curiosity (and because the lack of oriental shops in the area). Made a simple tofu/miso ramen bowl and it gave a nice flavor. However, it was a little saltier than expected. I still used this in various meals and found different ways to dilute the salt flavor, but it would also take away the miso flavor. Enjoyed working with this, but will be testing out other options to compare.

What a find!!!
Thanks to Murakami Haruki, and his sensuous decriptions of his charactors partaking in Miso soup.... This is my first Miso. Ive since branched out, but for 'everyday' use, this is my "go too' Miso. Well rounded unami flavor, not too salty and make a great soup base. I now add bonito flakes (a real leap for this american girl, but I do love sea food...), tofu and bits of seaweed to round out flavor. My coworkers have decided that Im truely an alien to their world of fast food, as I have this every morning for my breakfast. I feel healthier and am nearly addicted to this stuff. Maybe I have a bit of Japenese blood? (I dont, but wish I did!!!). Thank you from that culture for such a delicious food stuff!

Good flavor, but I also suggest you use some ...
This made the most delicious miso soup. I'm not going to lie, I did not follow the directions given on the package. I ended up boiling about 9 or so cups of water (this was dinner for 2 and leftovers for lunch) and added about three heaping spoonfuls of the paste to the water. Good flavor, but I also suggest you use some Bonito Soup Stock or Hon Dashi powder. This would also be good sweetened with a little bit of brown sugar and smeared all over some chicken or fish. I will probably buy this again when I run out. Which is probably soon as it is kind of a small container.

Awase = Red + White Miso and is good on so many things.
Awase miso is a mix of red and white miso and is amazing stuff. We have used this mixed with butter on popcorn, to top salmon, to make miso soup, etc. A little goes a long way as it is very salty but the flavor is great. In the fridge this stuff lasts easily for months, a year, and maybe even a lifetime if you manage not to use it all up first. This + instant dashi + wakame seaweed makes a very easy and quick miso soup that we can't get enough of. We'll definitely buy it again.
