The Mechanics of Ifa Divination System: Highlighting Some Elements of Technological Knowledge in Ifa and Its Divination System

Having studied Electrical Engineering my first year in college, I’ve always accredited Odu Ifa symbolic signature as a similar system to the digital binary computer fundamentals I learned at the University of Miami School of Engineering. The author of The Mechanics of Ifa Divination System, not only confirms the technological knowledge of Odu Ifa, but he conducts a technological migration mapping of Odu Ifa to the computer binary system, he shows how Opele can be compared to Quantum Computer computations, as well as develops an Odubetical Chart ASCII. This is not a book for learning Odu Ifa, even thou the Author, Ojo Oyebisi gives you a basic walk through in the first five chapters. If you don’t have a working knowledge of Odu Ifa, you won’t understand the true brilliance of the author’s correlation and adaptation of this indigenous cultural phenomenon we know as Odu Ifa. I read this book in one sitting, and I tell you, once you past chapter five (and the minor pictorial mistake on page 63) you enter a phase where your mind is ushered into a zone of information manipulation that you are immediately ported into a sphere where the technological brilliance of Ikin and Opele is realized. While I’m not a diviner, I certainly understand the culture, mythology, science, and medicinal properties inherent in Odu Ifa. This book maps out the technological science in a way that the Ifa devotee gains a wider and more relevant appreciation for this indigenous system. If you are a devotee, Apetebi, Awo, Iyanifa, Bàbálawo, this is a MUST read. Talk about modern day technological relevance? Oyebisi, Well Done! Well Done!

Very interesting book if you're in the beginning stages of learning Opele divination, or from becoming an IFA practitioner. I like the information given. I definitely learned some parts I hadn't yet on my own, but of course it will never replace the direct information gained from our elders. This will not bring you closer to becoming a priest, it is just general information, but pretty useful.

A lot of books out here about Ifa are straight trash filled with misinformation. This book is not one of them.

This book goes in depth on how scientific Ifa divination is. It talks about the mechanics behind the systems and how similar they are to computers.
