YES, YES, YES, YES!
If you enjoyed the Divergent Series, and who couldn't, and you were left wanting more, more, more like I was then this is a definite must read. No question about it, the character Four or Tobias is someone that makes you creave to know more about. This insightful short novel is just one in a spin off series. Four: The Son lets you dive deeper into the character Four from the prospective of Four himself with a focus his life before he has gone through the chosing ceremony and his relationship with his father and fraction of origin. Before reading this novel along with the other three books in this series the reader must read the first book in the Divergent Series or it will spoil a lot of the Divergent Series and I would recommend that you read the entire Divergent Series if possible before reading the Four spin off series. I loved this short novel along with the entire Four series and would urge everyone to read it. The only con of this book is that once again you end up craving more of this outstanding collection so fingers crossed that Veronica Roth will bless us with that.

Four is coming into his own!
Another excellent Four short story! Since Four is the number one initiate he gets first career pick. Max approaches him with a leadership training position which Four apprehensively agrees to.In The Son Zeke sets Four up on his first date with a pretty redhead named Nicole. Before you get angry on Tris's behalf, don't worry, it was actually pretty comical. He just can't seem to completely shake his Abnegation values. lol.Four also first learns what really happened to his mother."You can be more than either, more than any faction."We get to see Four's independence in this book. He really is more than just one faction. And he refuses to be a pawn. Well done!

Interesting reading
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!! WARNING YOU NOW!!!!!!!!!!!Hmm...so Tobias/Four knew his mom was alive long before Divergent began? That's interesting....I wish we could get this whole series from his perspective as well. We know how Tris felt through the books, but we never really know what was going on in his head. I personally felt quite annoyed with him, particularly in Allegiant. I wonder if we will also get an after Allegiant book? Because I would definitely be in to that! Veronica Roth, if you read these, I suggest you think about it at least! Overall, this novella was a good read, much like the other ones are. I really enjoy getting to see more of Four's character and the back story of how Dauntless was before the regular series began.

Wish this was out before Divergent
I really have enjoyed the Four series, but I really wish I knew all this before I read the Divergent series. I'm still upset with Veronica Roth for her ending with Allegiant. If I want to read about horrible endings will read the newspaper. When I read a good I want the characters to struggle, but I want them to triumph at the end and the whole thing left me very disappointed. I still think priesthood read Four. It's interesting to know things that happened to Four before Tris was ever there.

Good continuation.
This review is for the third installment of the Four series, The Son, only. As I keep reading the Four series, I keep gaining new insight into the Divergent series. Certain things make more sense now, like different characters' personalities, and why they might act/come off a certain way. I liked it, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the Divergent series.

I really enjoyed reading the Divergent story from Four's point of view
I really enjoyed reading the Divergent story from Four's point of view. Roth does a nice job explaining what happened to Four in the past and what his thoughts are about Tris, with that story running parallel to Tris' story in Divergent. You also find out about more things that happened during the Divergent story time period that are not in the original book, things you would not have guessed, but that make sense now. Love that these are short stories, easy to quickly read through.

Great read!
All the pieces are coming together. Now I know why four stated his name on the train when they were surrounded by the factionless in insurgent... this book was well written. I love how I read certain chapters and it takes me back to either divergent or insurgent.... brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

The Beginnings of Dauntless Corruption.
Veronica Roth gives us another in her five story novellas detailing some distinctive moments in the life of her character Four. This novella takes us to the moment after Four is initiated in Dauntless.I've found this to be the most detailed of the five short stories; there's an awful lot more information revealed to readers than in some of the other tales. In particular, we see Four coming to grips with changing from Abnegation to Dauntless and acclimatising to his new surroundings and the new traits he is supposed to demonstrate - I loved the tendencies to cleanliness and precision which Roth wove into Four's story; this made it feel much more personal. The Son also shows readers how Four came to work in the control rooms, as an instructor instead of as a Dauntless leader alongside Eric but also more minor details such as how he got his tattoos or came to have his own room when all the other Dauntless members share rooms in Divergent. I enjoyed these aspects the most because I felt like they tied up a few loose ends and answered a few questions that I'd been wondering about when reading Divergent. I realise none of them are "game-changers" for the plot throughout the trilogy but fans of Divergent will get a nice buzz from finding out some "behind-the-scenes" details I think.Ultimately, The Son cleverly looks at Four's relationship with his parents. Because of this it is absolutely essential that you have at least read Divergent as there are a couple of major spoilers within this novella - something to have in mind if you were thinking of just reading this to see if you'd like Roth's writing or the Divergent world. Incidentally, aside from reading Divergent, I really don't think it matters too much which order you read these novella in. I would recommend reading The Transfer before reading The Son purely because there is a small link between a faction-less character in both stories so it might be nice to appreciate this link.I really enjoyed this novella. It was great to get to see more into Four's life within Dauntless and I was really intrigued to see how the demise of Dauntless began through Four's eyes. A very good read.

Don't read before the Divergent trilogy
Great book covering some key events from the series from Tobias's viewpoint. In the series of books we get everything from Tris's view so I thought this series would feel like a repetition but it's like a familiar story with a twist and a more detailed insight. The series should be read after the trilogy to avoid spoilers.

Great book
This book is nice to have a quick read along with the other short stories about Four. Other books by Veronica Roth are great as well.
